Son of a Swadeshi Educationist, now Late Pt. Amar Nath Shastri, Known for unswerving commitment to oriental emancipation from the onslaught of alienating occidental education. After being initiated in the India tradition at home, entered the urdu-cum-english oriented High School as the only Hindi Medium student and despite apparent handicaps, always remained at the top. In addition to being a scholarship holder throughout, emerged as a top elocutionist of the country as also the editor of the then prestigious quarterly college magazine, the Sutlej (1953-55). Elected as president of the College Students Union of Govt. College, Ludhiana and also as Chairman of the joint council of the Students unions of Punjab (1954-55), and thus, merited the rare honour of inscribing his name twice (Roll of Honour) in the honours book of Govt. Post Graduate College, Ludhiana Here was a young man who remained every inch a Swadeshi and did a pioneering job by securing and ensuring a place of prestige and pride for Sanskrit, Hindi and Punjabi not only in the Magazines, but also at the functional level. It was this epoch making leadership which was hailed by the then Governor Sh. C.P.N Singh during his convocation address (1955), the first ever in Hindi in that imperial Govt. College of Ludhiana which had replaced Govt. College, Lahore after partition in 1947. Also led the Punjab contingent of youth in Bhoodaan movement of Acharya Vinoba Bhava ji and headed also the Punjab Students Goodwill Mission to Jammu and Kashmir in 1954. Continuing to indicate propensity to RSS since 1940.
Known for his erudition and multifaceted distinction as a student, writer, speaker and ideal leader, he post graduated in Hindi, despite having studied it only as an optional subject up to the degree level. Could easily emerge as a front rank or a top bureaucrat; but no, he chose to be a teacher, a post graduate College-teacher with the oriental spirit of India as the base and vindicated teachership in a classroom cum library and field oriented approach as a steward teacher of Hindi Literature. Attuned also to the science and philosophy of the conjunct of the classic and folk of earth couched in the cosmic and local enchantment of nature as the experience and exposition of life.
